“Levy Sekgapane was an outstanding Count Libenskof: a light tenor with a delightful voice and no problems in the highest notes.”

20.05.2019 – Bachtrack - Il barbiere di Siviglia - Glyndebourne Opera Festival

"...As Count Almaviva, Levy Sekgapane lit up the stage with his megawatt smile and metallic frock coat. His compact tenor is on the dry side but the sound is bright and shiny. He is a decent stylist, displaying neat coloratura and some fun ornaments in his serenade, which was accompanied by some flamenco riffs from the on-stage guitarist. He played up to the roles of sozzled soldier and mendacious music master well. In the circumstances, it’s a pity he was denied the aria “Cessa di più resistere”..." ..More

19.05.2019 – Classical Source - Il barbiere di Siviglia - Glyndebourne Opera Festival

"...As her amorous suitor Count Almaviva in his many disguises we have Levy Sekgapane, on this showing anticipated to be singing Rossini and other extrovert bel canto roles at the top level for years to come. He has genuine mastery of this florid music, allied to a bright, ringing tone. Yet he brings more reflective shades into the mix: this is a rather macho and confident Almaviva who manages his disguises well...." ..More

01.01.2018 – Klassik begeistert – Silverstergala – Elbphilharmonie Hamburg

14.09.2017 – Seen and Heard International – Il viaggio a Reims – Liceu Barcelona

There are two tenors in this opera. Lawrence Brownlee in the first cast was terrific as Conte Liebenskof, but the Belfiore of Taylor Stayton was more modest. In the second cast Levy Sekgapane was an outstanding Count Liebenskof: a light tenor with a delightful and no problems in the highest notes. Juan de Dios Mateos as Belfiore was more modest.

13.03.2017 – operatraveller – Il viaggio a Reims – Royal Opera Copenhagen

The gentlemen were also very satisfying. Levy Sekgapane is a new name to me and he is a very exciting singer. The owner of a light and high-lying tenor, he also offered some stratospheric embellishments and effortless ease in the florid writing. A name to watch certainly.
